This position serves as a Registered Dietitian at the Instructor level. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Meet with patients to:
– Assess individual histories
– Develop care plans to meet diabetes nutrition/exercise needs
– Implement these plans during a patient counseling session - Counsel and educate pediatric patients and their families on Medical Nutrition Therapy for type 1 and type 2 diabetes as
well as various pediatric nutrition issues including weight control and celiac disease.
– Educate patients and families on diabetes technology (including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors).
– Document patient counseling sessions including:
–Diet history
–Nutrition/exercise topics
–Goals achieved
–Further goals developed as well as plans for follow-up visits in the electronic medical record - Develop and revise diabetes education materials.
- Assist if needed in new and ongoing clinical research studies.
- Prepare and present educational sessions for health professionals, patients and community at large.
- Serve as a community resource for nutrition/exercise information on diabetes-related issues.
- Provide mentorship to nutrition interns.
- Teach other health professionals through observation of the clinic’s team management approach to diabetes care and the
clinic’s nutrition approach in diabetes management. - Analyze and evaluate recent nutrition diabetes research articles to develop and implement new approaches to nutrition
management of Type 1 diabetes - Collaborate with diabetes team members in order to establish individualized care plans for patients
