JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. BASIC FUNCTION: Uses the Nutrition Care Process to provide nutrition care to patients in the in-patient and out-patient hospital setting. Assists Health Education Coaching Director with planning and implementing community education events. Patient and community education duties include conducting classes and cooking demonstrations. At times works in collaboration with other departments and outside parties to organize and conduct community health initiatives. Duties include clerical activities including but not limited to making copies, scheduling, confirming appointments, and entering charges. Generates and replies to internal and external correspondence in a variety of formats. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in dietetics or closely related field. Experience: Minimum of one year clinical experience in in-patient and out-patient hospital setting preferred. Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required. Interest in or training in Certified Diabetes Education preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Nutrition Care Process, motivational interviewing, nutrition care throughout the lifecycle, and chronic disease experience with emphasis in diabetes and weight management preferred. Ability to develop and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with patients, community members and coworkers within Health Education department and interdepartmentally. Skilled in computer based applications including Microsoft Office Suite preferred. Must be able to demonstrate accuracy in processing detailed information. Knowledge and proper use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofing, document formatting and basic math skills preferred. Must demonstrate effective problem solving abilities and be able to handle multiple tasks.
